Report: Syrian Armored Forces Move Nearer to Israel

An interesting article headline caught my attention today and as I pondered the implications of such a move it struck me as being a potentially serious situation. As we all know Syria is under a near civil war that has been raging for 11 months now. The Free Syria Army is the main opposition group fighting Assad's forces. Assad's forces are trying desperately to maintain the deadly grip Assad has on Syria. Today's headlines show that the opposition group has seen indications that Assad is moving chemical weapons of mass destruction into the area in order to fight the Free Syria Army. The Israel National News website is reporting:

According to reports from the Free Syria Army, the Syrian military has moved forces stationed in the southern part of the Syrian Golan Heights closer to Israel. The Syrian military did not come close to the border with Israel. However, armored forces that were stationed along the Syria-Jordan border, which were recently reinforced, were moved and are now closer to Israel, according to the report.
The Free Syria Army is the largest opposition group in Syria and is partly made up of defectors from the official Syrian Army. Israel has been concerned that Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad, whose regime is on the verge of collapse, may try to defuse the uprising against him by starting a conflict with Israel.
With more killings taking place with each passing day, the movement of chemical weapons into the conflict with the Free Syria Army would be a serious escalation of the situation not to mention the possibility of the accidental or planned deflection of internal pressure by Assad by dragging Israel into the situation. We know from previous reports that Israel has already warned Assad that should chemical weapons be fired at Israel from either the Syrian Army or Hezbollah terrorist group that Damascus would take the bulk of Israel's retaliation.
This sort of scenario's bring into focus the potential that is currently in the world that could bring about the fulfillment of the prophecies made by the ancient prophets concerning the region. Not only is Isaiah 17 in view, but the potential for Psalm 83 being fulfilled is increasing as well as Palestinian unity talks continue to advance. This is definitely a time where watchers of Bible prophecy should be glued to the TVs and Internet for updates on the situation in Israel and Syria. Israel for their part is taking the situation seriously as they plant landmines along the border with Syria. According to the INN article:
A Lebanese newspaper, The People's Army, claimed Thursday in its news website that the IDF has been making an extra effort in the past few days to place landmines all along its border with Syria.
Hundreds of Israeli soldiers are reportedly working at lining the border with mines. Israel had already placed mines along some stretches of the border with Syria after the Nakba Day events last year, in which hundreds of Syrians broke into Israel virtually unimpeded. The action had been orchestrated by the Syrian government, later reports showed.
Folks, keep watching, if you blink you could miss something.

God bless.
Chris
